Anxiety & Depression
Life can be challenging. Sometimes, when we are worried about the future, stuck in the past, or finding it difficult to simply get through the day, we often experience distress. Anxiety and/or depression are the most prevalent mental health conditions in Australia today. Psychological therapy is often the first-line treatment to help improve your wellbeing.
-
Cultural Difficulties
Australia is one of the most multicultural countries in the world, with Melbourne being a hub for diversity. Oftentimes, cultural assimilation and differing values, attitudes and beliefs, can be challenging to navigate. Some also experience discrimination and isolation. Hourglass Psychology can help to build your sense of identity while honouring your heritage.
-
LGBTQIA+
Those who identify as diverse in either their gender, sexuality, and/or sex, may experience psychological distress due to a range of personal, social, and/or biological challenges. Hourglass Psychology offers safe, non-judgemental support using affirmative therapy to help explore and embrace your individuality within the context of your community and society.
-
Trauma
For some who attend therapy with specific presenting problems, realise throughout the therapeutic process that trauma underlies their ongoing pain. At Hourglass Psychology, we adopt the guiding principles of safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness and empowerment in recognising signs of trauma, how to respond and resisting re-traumatisation.
-
Young People
Adolescence is a transitional time of physical and psychological development. Oftentimes social and mental health problems emerge, and youth can feel overwhelmed in our current world climate. Hourglass Psychology offers confidential guidance and support to help young people navigate their personal journey to adulthood.
-
Addiction
Addiction comes in many forms. Substance use, gaming, sex, social media, to name a few. Oftentimes addiction leads to harmful consequences in areas such as relationships, work, finances, health, and/or self-worth. At Hourglass Psychology we adopt a client-centred, collaborative approach to reach your goals and maintain long-term change.
